Reverse letters

Reverse letters is a free tool that reverses the order of bytes in a sentence, paragraph or other piece of text.
How do I reverse the letters in text?
The result is returned in the Reversed field.
For ASCII input, the whole input is reversed from end to beginning. ASCII letters, spaces, digits and punctuation move together. The tool does not correct spelling, preserve word order or remove unwanted characters.
Where is reversed text useful?
Reversed text is mainly useful for puzzles, wordplay, simple content effects and checking character sequences.
- Create clues for a crossword, treasure hunt or escape-room worksheet.
- Use reversed text for a joke or puzzle in a WhatsApp group, Discord channel or forum.
- Check whether a word is a palindrome by comparing it with its reversed form.
- Prepare fixed ASCII test data for a form, text editor or software test.
- Reverse an identifier when diagnosing a data-processing rule that reads characters from the wrong end.
Reversal does not increase or reduce the number of ordinary ASCII characters, so it will not help text fit into a restricted field. It can also make links, email addresses and hashtags unusable because their punctuation and character order change.

What happens to spaces, punctuation and unusual characters?
ASCII spaces, punctuation and digits are reversed along with the letters, while accented characters, emoji and non-Latin scripts may not survive correctly.
The underlying operation uses PHP's strrev function. This reverses the bytes in the supplied string rather than reversing Unicode characters as complete units. Plain ASCII text such as English letters, digits and common punctuation behaves predictably. A character such as é, an emoji or text written in Arabic, Hindi, Japanese or another non-ASCII script can contain several UTF-8 bytes, which may be split into an invalid sequence.
An empty input produces an empty reversal. A useful practical habit is to process separate lines one at a time when their original line order matters. For LF-only input, reversing a complete multi-line block also reverses the position of its line breaks and lines. With Windows-style CRLF line endings, byte reversal changes each CRLF sequence to LFCR, which may damage the line endings.

Worked reversal examples
These examples use ASCII characters, for which the result is unambiguous.
- Input: Meet at 3 pm. Output: .mp 3 ta teeM
- Input: abc 123! Output: !321 cba
- Input: drawer Output: reward
- Input: Room 42 Output: 24 mooR
Capital letters remain capital letters, but move to their new positions. Reversing text does not change letter case.
Should I reverse letters or reverse words?
Use Reverse letters when every byte in ASCII text must move into the opposite order, and use Reverse words when the words should change order while their internal spelling remains readable.
For example, reversing the letters in "red green blue" produces "eulb neerg der". A word-order reversal would produce "blue green red". If the input is a column of items exported from Excel or Google Sheets, Reverse list is usually the more suitable choice because character reversal would also reverse every item's spelling.
The processing for this tool takes place on the server. Your input travels to the server over HTTPS and is not stored.
Frequently asked questions
Does reversing text make it read from right to left?
No. For ASCII text, it changes character order but does not set the writing direction. Applications still apply their own left-to-right or right-to-left display rules, so reversed Arabic or mixed-direction text can appear particularly confusing.
Can I reverse a CSV row without damaging it?
For an ASCII CSV record, byte reversal moves commas and double quotes; doubled double quotes remain doubled, but the field order and contents change. The record may become invalid if it contains non-ASCII data or a reversed CRLF line ending. Reverse individual field values before rebuilding the CSV if that is the intended result.
Is reversed text encrypted or hidden securely?
No. Reversal is a simple, immediately reversible transformation and provides no encryption or access control. Do not use it to conceal passwords, payment details or confidential messages.
Will reversing text twice restore the original?
For ASCII text, yes, provided the first result is copied exactly without added or removed characters. With invalid UTF-8 produced from multi-byte characters, another system may replace or discard damaged bytes, so a second reversal might not recover the original text. Keep a copy of the source when working with anything beyond plain ASCII.
