Reverse words

Reverse words is a free tool that changes the order of the words in a sentence or paragraph and returns the reordered text.
How do I reverse the words in a sentence?
Paste or type your text, run the tool, then copy the result from the Reversed field. The words appear in the opposite sequence, which avoids moving each word by hand.
- Enter the sentence, phrase or paragraph whose word order you want to reverse.
- Run the reversal and review the Reversed result.
- Copy the reversed text into the document, form or application where you need it.

Keep the original text until you have checked how reversing its word order affected names, punctuation and line breaks. For a long paragraph, reversing one sentence at a time often makes mistakes easier to spot.
What does reversing words change?
Reversing words changes their sequence rather than reversing the letters inside each word. For example, "Tea is ready" becomes "ready is Tea". The first word moves to the end, the last moves to the beginning, and the intervening words change position accordingly.
This differs from character reversal. Turning "north" into "htron" is a letter-level operation, so Reverse letters is the more relevant tool for that task. Word reversal can also produce grammatically unusual sentences because it rearranges the text without rewriting it.
Example inputs and outputs
- Input north east south west; Output west south east north
- Input Order 12 ships Friday; Output Friday ships 12 Order
- Input copy this line now; Output now line this copy
Numbers can occupy the same kind of position as words in a simple space-separated phrase, as the second example shows. A single-word input has no sequence to rearrange, while an empty input contains no words to reverse.

Where does reversing word order save time?
It saves time when an entire phrase needs to be reordered and manual copying would be slow or error-prone. Common uses include preparing test data, experimenting with sentence structure and correcting simple lists that arrived in the wrong order.
- Rearranging a short list copied from Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets when its items were exported from last to first.
- Creating predictable test strings for a search box, text parser or content-management system.
- Trying alternative word arrangements for a poem, puzzle or language exercise.
- Checking how Slack, Microsoft Teams or another messaging platform displays deliberately reversed text.
- Correcting a one-off name sequence before a Microsoft Word mail merge, provided each name follows the same simple pattern.
Be careful with personal names. Reversing "Smith Jane" may produce the intended "Jane Smith", but compound surnames, titles and middle names need individual review. A useful habit is to duplicate the original spreadsheet column before changing mail-merge data, so the source values remain available.
Reversal does not shorten text for an X post, LinkedIn field or other character-limited form. Use Character counter when the requirement is to measure length rather than change order.
What should I check with punctuation and unusual input?
Check the result whenever the input contains punctuation, repeated spaces, line breaks or scripts that do not separate words with ordinary spaces. The general idea of word reversal is simple, but software can differ in how it identifies word boundaries.
Commas, brackets and quotation marks may visually belong to a neighbouring word, so read the reordered sentence before publishing it. Hyphenated terms and apostrophes also deserve attention. Accented letters and non-Latin characters should not be assumed to follow English spacing conventions.
For very long input, work in smaller sections if sentence boundaries matter. Reversing a complete paragraph can move words across places where a human editor would normally stop, producing text that is technically reordered but difficult to use.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text stored?
No. The work is done on the server, so your input travels to the server over HTTPS, but it is not stored. Avoid submitting confidential text to Reverse words if your organisation prohibits sending it to external web services.
Can I use this on a CSV file?
A general word reversal is a poor choice for a complete CSV file because changing sequence can damage row and column structure. Import the file into Excel or Google Sheets and transform only the cells that require reordering, while leaving delimiters and headings untouched.
Will reversed text improve search rankings?
There is no general SEO benefit to reversed wording, which is usually harder for people and search engines to interpret. Keep normal word order for page titles, product descriptions and accessibility labels unless reversal has a clear editorial purpose.
What happens to emoji?
Some emoji are represented by an emoji ZWJ sequence rather than a single character. Use a short emoji-containing sample first and inspect the reversed result on the platform where it will appear, since rendering can differ between browsers, phones and applications.
Can I reverse a numbered list?
You can reverse the wording of a pasted list, but that is different from sorting complete rows into descending order. If each numbered item must remain intact, reverse the row order in a spreadsheet or text editor instead, then check that the numbering still runs correctly.
