To add a link to your Instagram bio, open the Instagram app, go to your profile, tap Edit profile, then Links, choose the option to add a link, and paste the address. Without a subscription you can add up to five websites this way, according to Instagram's Help Centre, and the option is only in the app, not on a computer. Accounts with a Meta One subscription can add up to 20. If you need more than five links without paying Meta, use one of them for a link in bio page.
The steps below were checked against Instagram's Help Centre on 19 October 2026. Menu names can shift slightly between app versions, so if a label looks different on your phone, look for the same order of screens.
How do I add a link to my Instagram bio?
- Open the Instagram app and tap your profile picture in the bottom right.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links, then the option to add a link. Instagram has used slightly different labels for it, such as Add link or Add external link.
- Paste the full web address and, if you like, add a title.
- Save, then open your profile and tap the link to make sure it goes to the right page.
Instagram doesn't let you add profile links from a desktop browser, so do this on your phone or tablet. If the Links option is missing, update the app first, as older versions can show a different layout.
How do I add more than one link to my Instagram bio?
Repeat the steps above. Each link you add appears in your profile's list of links, up to five in total without a subscription. Five links will be enough for many small businesses, for example a hairdresser might use one for bookings, one for the price list and one for gift vouchers.
Use the title field where Instagram offers it. "Book an appointment" tells people more than a long booking system address that ends in a string of numbers.
Can I put a link in my Instagram bio text?
You can type a web address into your bio text, but it won't become a clickable website link. To make a link tappable from your profile, add it under Edit profile and then Links. If you type an address into the bio text, keep it short enough to remember, such as digily.bio/rosiesbakery, so people can type it if they want to.
Captions work the same way. Links in captions aren't clickable for most accounts. Meta One, announced on 15 September 2026, changes that for some subscribers. Eligible public accounts on Meta One Advanced can add links to up to 4 posts and 4 Reels a month, Expert to 8 of each and Max to 12, and the link is added in its own field when you publish rather than typed into the caption. For most small businesses, profile links and story link stickers are still the places that work.
Can you add more than five links on Instagram itself?
Yes, if you pay for Meta One. Meta's Help Centre says eligible accounts on any Meta One plan, from Essential upwards, can turn their profile links into a link page with up to 20 links, each with a title and an image, and share that page with its own URL. Teen accounts can't use it. Links appear in the order you add them, and you can choose a primary link to show first.
When five links aren't enough
Five links work well when you only have a few destinations. They become limiting when you want any of the following.
- more than five destinations, such as a menu, a booking page, three delivery apps and a gift card shop;
- pictures, opening hours or a short description next to the links;
- one place to update when an offer changes, instead of editing Instagram and every other profile separately;
- the same set of links on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and your Google Business Profile.
If you don't want a Meta One subscription, put a link in bio page as one of your Instagram links. The page brings many destinations together in one place, and you can keep two or three of your most-used links directly on Instagram as well. A florist, for instance, could keep "Order flowers" as a direct Instagram link and put weddings, funerals, workshops and delivery areas on the page.
Digily Link's free plan includes 5 bio link pages with link buttons, an opening hours block and social icons, and you can choose short addresses such as digily.bio/yourname. Free pages show a small Digily Link branding badge, which you can remove from the Starter plan at £2 a month.
How to see which Instagram bio link people tap
If you want a click count for each link, use a short link for each one. Digily Link records how often each short link is opened and keeps the statistics for 30 days on the free plan. A click is an open of the link, not a confirmed booking or sale, so treat it as a measure of interest.
If you add UTM tags to the address behind each short link, such as utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=bio, Google Analytics can show those visits as a separate campaign in its Traffic acquisition report, as long as Analytics is set up on your website. Short link opens and Analytics sessions won't match exactly.
Why won't my Instagram bio link work?
- A typo in the address. Open it from your own profile to check.
- A destination that needs sign-in or access permission, such as a private Google Drive file.
- A page that doesn't load well in Instagram's in-app browser. Most sites are fine, but test checkouts and booking forms.
